I have only just recently started to drink tea… Being British I bet you all thought I was addicted already! I think the reason for my liking of tea now is due to work. Being a working woman in a … Continue reading
The birthday is over for the 22 year old, and I attempted to bake the best chocolatey and peanut-buttery cake this world (or just my boyfriend) has ever seen/ATE! My mother and I chose to play it a little safe … Continue reading

Last year on valentines day I decided to celebrate with my very first bake. I made this cake on my own without the famous mamma jones (I was very proud!) This bake was a very generic red velvet cake topped with cream cheese frosting, my idea of cake h.e.a.v.e.n! The image shows my weak points… And that was the frosting. I have improved ever since thanks to mamma jones. Yet still the quote from my mum remains fresh in my memory
‘Sam you’ve made a bloody good cake! And you know me I speak the truth’ and she really does!
Ever since that valentines day I’ve been baking on my own ever since. Sometimes I win sometimes I loose but it’s trial an error! That’s the way I learn. This year however I’m tackling my first pastry for my valentines bake, and I’m terrified!! Fingers crossed there’s no soggy bottom on my tart… I’m praying to the pastry gods!
I’m going to be baking the famous Bakewell tart. God I miss a good bakewell! Singapore unfortunately doesn’t sell them… And everyday a good strong cup of tea just isn’t the same without a Bakewell tart! So especially for my boyfriend, who ever since came to the uk with me in the summer of 2013 has been in love with Bakewell tarts! He will now receive his wish 🙂 (he can stoop nagging me now!!) I’m going to share with you the recipe and take photos step by step of my pastry adventure!! I’ll be showing off my piping skills too with a little red heart in the centre (because I have to be cheesy for v-day!). Traditionally it’s topped with white icing and a glazed cherry yet I’ll add my special quirky twist because I’m Sam! So wish me luck on my adventure! I shall keep you posted 🙂
💘Happy Tuesday! Only 2 more sleeps till the big day 🙂 get baking with looooooove! 💌
I am Samantha and I live in sunny Singapore. I’m currently working in singapore as a teachers assistant for a preschool and enjoying every minute of being my fun bubbly self with the children. Working with children has been my passion for a long time but only recently have been able to peruse it. I worked within a special needs school here in Singapore for 1 year and 6 months until truly moving forward with other adventures that lay ahead for me here. Loving every moment of my working journey here and never really want it to end! I’m one very lucky girl here in Singapore.
Now time for a bit of background on how I actually got here to Singapore. I’m originally from the UK but been in Singapore since I was 11 and now I’m 18, it’s been a long long time! Studying in an International School here in Singapore I’ve made so many different types of friends from all across the globe and now have an excuse to go travel the world to visit them all (I know, yet again I’m super lucky!). I’ve been raised by a crazy british family and we are nicknamed the Mad Jones Clan! My mum is probably the best traditional british baker I have ever met and that is one of the reasons to why I am writing this blog. She’s given me the baking bug! All her fault! Now almost every day I wake up with new modern & healthy ideas on baking traditional cakes, tarts, tray bakes you name it! So here I am writing on my new retro blog to share all my wacky ideas with the world 🙂 and fingers crossed you enjoy them as much as I do!
Here’s a little sneak peak and me and my mums magic Toblerone brownie tray bake that literally will be eaten in 1.5 seconds flat. This photo will be leaving you all drooling I know! (it is for me right now). It’s not the most healthy brownie ever but this is literally the Jones’s party centre piece that we can’t not bring to a party, if we don’t they’ll be trouble!
I hope by making this blog I share my modern new ideas on true british baking and give my mums traditional bakes a new unique twist! Fingers crossed she’ll enjoy them too, since she is my role model when it comes to baking. Hopefully in a few years to come I can make all my dreams come true with a retro tea room along side mamma jones herself. It’s always been her dream to open up a traditional tea room yet never has she had the most confidence to do so. I’ll hopefully be the one to give her that boost because she truly needs to realize how good of a baker she really is, I guess i’ll be the one to make her realize. So let’s make this blog a good one! I’ll be posting anything from my bakes, my ideas, my photography or any of my other mad obsessions I may have for you all! Sharing new bakery’s or cafe’s I find will also be a must for my blog as me and my boyfriend are always on the hunt for new place’s to grab a coffee or cupcake at! My posts may be odd, strange or slightly on the wacky side but I guess thats just me 🙂 So sit back, relax and enjoy my weird yet wonderful life!
